I finally finished up my first round of hay cutting and beat the rain ! Life is good, even though it was a little tougher than usual with all of this rainy weather.

Now if i can get my hay off the feild and a little nitrate down with all of this rain. Maybe i can get a bumper crop of hay this year ! ;-)

So let her rain, let err rain, let err rain !

Good going Stepper, nice getting that hay up. :D Say, what you doing right to get all that rain? We are REALLY dry, going on 4 weeks without rain. We've got very little hay, started turning the cows in.

Thanks mnmtranching ! :D

I think that the reason i am getting all of this rain is because the big man above just wants to test my nerves and see what it will take to break me !

You see the winter before last i had put up alot of extra hay and had no idea about the droughts that was going on every where else like Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas etc...,,

So i had about 50 extra bales of hay going into the Spring of 2006 when i had this guy come up and ask me if i would be interested in selling it to him. :) So i said sure and i did not want to take advantage of the guy so i sold it to him for $15 a bale. I mean i did not want to have all that old hay sitting arround to feed out next winter so i thought this is great i will get rid of it. It was pretty descent hay to.

Man that fella was there the next morning to start loading it up and was very apprechaitive for getting it. He has several cattle and was completly out of hay. ( little did i know he was in the same boat as about half of the rest of the cattlemen arround here.)

So after finding out about the bad drought we were in. I kicked myself in the but for weeks after selling that hay ! :( I told a guy who has cattle that i work with about selling that hay and he said "Oh you should'nt have done that ! " And i was like yeah ! :x I know that now.

So i spent the rest of the summer wondering if i was going to be able to cut enough hay to hang on to my little newly aquired herd of cattle. That was one of my first lessons that i learned about the cattle bussiness. If you want to stay in it for a while longer. Dont sell your hay in the middle of a drought !

So i guess the big man up stairs wanted to give me a few more sleepless nights this year by sending all of this rain and cool weather making it hard to bale hay in just to see if i learned my lesson from that last big mistake i made !

I forgot to say i hope you guys get some rain. I know what it is like to go with out it. We were lucky here last year and even though we did not get alot of rain we got enough to get us through. I sure felt sorry for all of the people who got hit bad by that drought last year and had to sell their cattle off. I would not wish that on no one.

So i wish you the best of luck and hope you get lots of rain soon ! ;-)

I can mow my hay fields with a lawn mower and the grass catcher wouldn't even fill up. :x

Why not rent it out as a golf course and make a little money?
