I have been approached about the availability of our herd bull. I have never leased one out before so I wouldn't know what to charge. the bull is a commercial herf/angus cross of good quality. he is a proven bull, current on shots and healthy. the fellow that is inquiring about his availability only has 2 or 3 cows and I am tempted just to let the fellow use him gratis, but I haven't made my mind up and I think it would be fairer to him if I charged even a nominal fee but I don't know what current rates are for service. also, is there a standard liability contract I should execute in case of injury to the bull? any suggestions you all have are appreciated...tmax

If he only has a few to breed. Shoot em up so they cycle and put em all in a pen. Leg em do the deal and trade him for whatever tickles you. I'd surely throw some cubes in for Bull on thd dealio.

Everyone wants to lease you a bull around here, it's 250$ and up for 60 or 90 days, and IMO that's pretty high. And I believe even with testing it's a good way to spread disease.

Is leasing the way it's done in most places? Around here, neighbors just loan bulls. We had a neighbor's registered Gelbvieh bull from November 30 to July last season.

Most around here want to lease or rent them. I've never thought it was a good idea. There have been times I would have let someone take one of my bulls for free for a few months just to not have him around, but him bringing something I don't need in my herd, is something I can't afford.
