Lawn Tractor Problems!

I just bought a '92 Huskee Lawn Tractor with a 12 hp briggs engine. It starts and runs fine but when I idle or ride it in high throttle it will sound fine and then POOF a spurt of blue smoke shoots out of the exhaust...Does anyone know the cause of this type of problem? I'm not sure if that means its burning oil or what the issue is :?:

Had a mower that acted like that once, and it had been vastly overfilled with oil. Drained out to the proper level, and all was well.

The oil level is in between "add" and "full". I also did an oil change and it didn't change anything...someone told me it could be oil getting around the spark plug causing a mis fire?? Is this possible?

Check the sparkpug, that will tell you if it's burning excessive oil

Try running it without the air filter.

Thanks for the suggestions guys...I tried running it without the air filter and did not do anything.

I purchased a new spark plug and upon removing the old one took note that the threads were covered in black oil...Is this normal? I barely know anything about engines...

After running the tractor for about an hour with the new one I removed it and it to had a small amount of oil residue on the threads.

Sounds to me like that engine is REALLY tired....

you should probably look for a replacement engine, you've got oil getting by your piston rings.
