The market where most of my calves go has their sales on Mondays, including Labor Day. Some of the locals have strong opinions about selling on holidays for various reasons. I've tried to steer clear of them, but last year I took a couple head on Labor Day and a trailer load the week after and the prices dropped about two or three cents that week. Anyone here think the holiday affects the price of cattle that week, specially 5 and 6 wt steers?

Your market will sell on Labor Day? Within 150 mile of me, I don't know any that are open on any of the Holidays.
Pre holiday markets are weak, generally.

There's a feeder sale Tuesday night after Labor Day at Narrows, Va. Gotta be checked in by 3 - sale at 7. I have attended this sale for the last several years and have seen prices start and remain very strong throughout the sale. On Labor Day itself, I would be hesitant to sale.

Our local barn's two biggest sales are Labor Day and President's Day. Prices are always higher on Labor Day it seems. The regular buyers are there along with a lot of smaller part time cattle feeders that can't attend a regular sale because of work obligations. Prices will drop a couple cents usually the following week.
