I'm relatively new to hay with this being my second season. Our Kuhn SR110 GII (10 wheel rake) is digging into the ground and pulling up green, uncut grass mainly on the rear rake wheels. I've added the second springs, adjusted the ground contact springs for least pressure and most pressure, and adjusted the tongue up and down but it still occurs. It seems the more I tighten the ground contact adjustment the front rake wheels adjust properly, but the rear rake wheels just continue to dig in.

Has anyone else experienced this? Anything I'm not thinking of that could be done?

What is your tire pressure? More pressure would raise the rear of the rake would it not? I run ours at 23 psi.

I have ours adjusted to where the front wheels start out just above the ground until they hit some hay and that pulls them down. Back 4 wheels are constant contact. I miss small bits on uneven ground at the front wheels, but can always slide over a bit to let the 4th grab and let the 5th run cleanup from the last pass.

I need to put thr new springs on it. They're sitting in the basement.

have you tried putting it all the way down, then hitting your lever back for a second to let it "float"
When you move the lever back, watch the hydraulic cylinders, you can see them move enough to lessen ground pressure. In addition to the "float" make sure the rake is level. If the front is high the rear wheels will dig. Level it by judging the level of the frame. I run mine will a hook up on the 3 point which makes it easy to level.

Ive been tempted to try that but watched a guy tear up his tedder on uneven ground on a 3 pt trailer mover. I assume that's what ya mean.

Don't have a picture, but that's essentially what is is. I have a gooseneck ball on top & a drawbar style extension that I can use a ball on or just hookup like a drawbar. Homemade special.
Never used a tedder because here in SETX hay drys really well, most of the time🤠

With the back set of rake wheels in tandem on one pivot theres only so much you can adjust before the 2nd to last rake wheel is affected.

Get yourself a rake with independently mounted and suspended wheels. Cleaner raking and can adjust the down pressure on each wheel separately.

I have the same rake and never had that problem and it does as good of job as any rake I have ever seen or used (G2 110 with the kicker wheel). Also used it behind several different tractors with the drawbar height several inches different and it works.

Here is a picture from about 3 years ago in fall hay and they don't call it a speed rake for nothing because I can rake three times faster than I can bale at least. IMO the rake has several adjustments on it and one that adjusts the back two wheels is set wrong, put together wrong, or the rake got warped up somehow. Neighbor has the independent each wheel Kubota and it will not do anything mine want, matter of fact I think mine will hold to the ground better (sweep better) in real thick hay.

Gen 1 10 wheel speed rake is what i use. It does a bang up job. Im not complaining either. I need a megawidr pickup baler cause it makes some huge windows. But I get most of it. 😃

Biggest time saver ive got.

Took a picture of the rake hitch. Yes, the 3910 hydraulics leak down when it's turned off.
