About 2 weeks ago I noticed a softball size knot between her hook and pin bones about 4 inches lower on her right hind quarter. She's very gentle and when we examine it it doesn't seem to bother her at all. It hasn't changed in the 2 weeks and today there's another knot exactly like the other one in the same place on the left side. Thought it might have been the bull but she hasn't been in heat. Someone said it may be fat because she's pretty fat but not obese. What are your thoughts. I may take a needle and syringe and see what's in there.

If it does have puss in it should I lance it or let it be. I've had about the same results both ways. When I do lance one I cut a vertical opening at the bottom, flush well and put a tube of mastitis medicine that contains cephapirin in it then keep it open for a few days. What would you flush it with? What do you think would cause this?

I have seen large swellings in different areas occasionally on livestock that I attributed to bug bites or stings, but they usually go away in a few days.

It does look more like a hematoma but odd she has one on each hip. Maybe scratching her butt on a tree under low-hanging limbs?

I lanced a large hematoma on a bulls head but he wasn't in a chute, so wasn't able to flush and just let it drain & heal on its own. He made a full recovery; couldn't even tell after about a month.
