i talked to a guy that had cattle on kleingrass pasture and he said the cows couldn't keep up with it in the spring and when it got tall and rank later in summer they wouldn't eat it.
he said he tried increasing the number of cattle on it but then later in the year he was overstocked.
i'd sure hate to have to spend money(diesel, wear tear,etc) shredding it to keep it palatable.
could it be baled for hay or would they even eat the hay ?

Yes... and yes.

Best way to do Klein to have it in its own pasture so when you put the cattle on it they don't have a choice but to eat it. That is with most grasses. Cattle typically always go to the newer, tender, growth.
