As of last night. Nothing too serious, but it could be. Just an abcessed tooth......

He broke his front teeth at school in September, kids were horsing around on the playground equipment. So he was in to see the dentist right away, and we thought he was fixed up. But, he must have damaged one of his eyeteeth in the same incident, it wasn't a problem at the time, but now it is abcessed. He started complaining about his teeth early last week. Just saying he thought he had a cavity. Well, since dental checkups are coming up, I just thought he was looking for problems. Friday night though, he told us that his front teeth had been hurting for a couple days. And Friday night is a great  time to tell us he is having problems. No dental office's around here are open again til Monday. Saturday, his teeth really started hurting, so off to the Emergency (an hour away) we went. Doc gave us some Lanacane/Lidocane to put on them when they were bothering him bad, and said keep up the Advil. And told us to get into the Dentist as soon as possible. So every thing seemed OK.

Sunday morning, when we finally had a good look at him, after chores, his face was swollen up a bit, mostly the cheek, and side of his nose. Called the Doctor, and he sent some antibiotics out with my mother. Said to call or come in if the swelling got any worse. Monday we took him to the Dentist, who said it was an abcess, and scheduled us to come back in on Wednesday so they could drain it. Also said to take him in to the Emergency again if the swelling got any worse. Well, it did, his eye started to swell shut, and his face really started to look lopsided. Took him in to the Emergency at 7:00 pm Monday night, and they said they would be keeping him. He will be in for 3-4 days, and still gets to go see the dentist on Wednesday, and then come back to the hospital.

Lots of driving for us. We are an hour from the Hospital he is in, and an hour from the Dentists and they are an hour apart from each other. Tomorrow, Matthew has to be at the Dentists for 3:00 pm. Hubby will leave here at 1 and probably won't be back home til after supper. And we have 50 cows due to pop at any time...... Could be worse though, we could be dealing with this in the MIDDLE of calving. At least it is nice out as well.

Good luck to you and Matthew. Sounds painful. How old is he?

Thank You,

He is 11. They are keeping him up on the pain meds as well as antibiotics, so I don't think he is feeling too much pain. He isn't complaining about it any way. It is much easier to leave an 11 year old there than it would be our 6 year old ;-) . He is enjoying his sojurn. All the TV he wants, no-one to share the remote with, and of course, 3 days of no school :lol2: .

Hope he gets well soon.

Im thinking he may be enjoying that no school and T.V. and of course all the ice cream he wants i guess. But I also hope he gets well soon and everything works out all right.

You gotta watch that stuff. It can get bad. I am glad he's doing better. Nothing's worse than a toothache. My husband had one pulled this week himself. Pretty soon, this teeth will be in a jar at night.

Thanks everyone. I am sure that he will be OK.

MNMT, if the weather stays the way it is, we should have a good calving season. Trouble is if it stays like this we won't have anything to feed the mama's this summer :?

Lammie, Hope your hubby is feeling better, I think Matthew will likely end up getting a root canal, but we will find out more today.

They did tell us how serious it could get, into the sinuses, and possibly the brain if it got bad enough. Fortuneately he wasn't nearly that serious.

Guy in Bastrop died from an abcessed tooth-You're darned tootin that can be serious!
