Hi All

No doubt you know about the guy named Kyle caught up in various charges after he discharged a firearm it is alleged.

It is not clear, but seems they are going for defense instead, and the way some may have acted, maybe that will stand up.

It is complex, and the young guy is now going to find out just how complex life can be, whether in the right or wrong when your charged with taking the lives of others within many Western systems.

How does open carry work in that state ? Are people allowed to open carry ARs ? what about when a curfew is in place ? What about age, how are these things verified, or is it up to a or any officer to check, i.e, they can ask anyone, or do they have a duty to ask ?

It varies widely from state to state.
Some states no permit is even required. Some require permits. Some it is very difficult to even get a permit.

Itll be interesting to see how this plays out. It's a mess for sure and I'll refrain from voicing my opinion until more is known.

One thing is pretty obvious. He was running toward the line of police because he was being chased by a pack of assailants. He shot when he had to. That's self defense all day long.

The million dollar question is what was he doing there with his ar15. Did he have business, family or property there. Or was he just being a idiot.

It is also different when one talks of longarms and pistols, right ?

And concealed and open carry has variants. Although I assume there is no longarm concealed carry ?

I think he may have broken the law due to age and carrying an ar, not an air rifle lets say....

It is a mess for him, that is for sure, and I am not sure why anyone would try and take any weapon from anyone else, there are many angles too look at.....

the report that I heard on a news broadcast is that he and several others were hired by a car dealership to protect the vehicles on the lot from protesters. A video of the dealership showed several citizens with assault rifles next to the sidewalks and on top of the dealership roof.

I feel sorry in a way, if I had an arm, as did many of my young relatives, and anyone tried to take it from me, I am sure as a pre teen I would have reacted, as a mid teen, it may have been taken from me and used on me, now, I would be same as pre teen, no one would be taking from me.

But.

As above, question may be why is one in that situation.

Seems had no business, but at same time seems maybe his intentions were very good, but this I do not know.

I guess I could say without doubt, I would not try and take even a non lethal weapon from anyone when in late teens, my move would have been too move away in any such situation.

The cops knew they were there too it seems.....

They were not hunting people down or looking for trouble, it seems....

You cannot do that sort of thing here, you need a recognised lic to provide any sort of unarmed security, armed would be very complex.

Here you have every right to carry a gun, especially a long gun. If a employee of the car lot or even as a guest. He should have had the right to stand his ground. He had a reason to be there. And he had two choice's fight or curl up in ball and wait to be killed........

I am trying to keep my personal beliefs out of it.

The kid will find it does not matter what anyone thinks, thinks does not come into it when law and lawyers become involved, nevermind the situation regarding politics now.

We lost rights to have a gun in car decades ago, it has to be hidden like a shameful thing, but, at same time, it is better if people are not walking around with arms whe people are in excited states.

It seems he is not considered an adult, so that may mean others also get fingers pointed at them.

A mess,, sorry for all involved for many and multiple reasons.

PS carry a gun.

Here ? You mean your state ?

Many states have very specific rules or permits reqd for open or concealed carry, I am not sure how that yranslates to long arms or semi auto...

Today the lines, even here are blurred between actions and barrel lengths and actions, with 52 states, I cannot imagine it is simple ? Unless your carrying a hunting gun and going or been hunting.....or there is very clear carry policies.

Part of the question is I am not familiar with the exact rules, hell, even the police here get our rules wrong all the time, so I do not pretent to know the ones there, but flags for me are curfew, under 18 or 21, carrying a weapon in such a situation, i.e...def not hunting etc?...
