I don't want this to become bipartisan political. Both parties could have fixed this and both have failed us miserably.

I don't consider myself rich but I'm watching my 401k shrink and it hurts (I can't move matching funds without the IRS calling). I try to tell myself it doesn't matter since I'm not retiring soon. Then I think of those that wanted to retire soon. Those that wanted too, won't retire, and that means some guy/gal that might of got that job, won't. I'm thinking unemployment will go up.

We are running a national debt of 10 trillion dollars. That is over $33,600 per citizen. Add your spouse and children to that figure. Then take into consideration who doesn't pay taxes. Then take into consideration who gets paid "instead of paying" for an income tax return. Its called "earned income credit". Apparently you qualify for this even if you are not a citizen.

If I could, I would give most of the powers back to the state. Pork belly spending and domestic spending is really not a job the federal government can handle. It turns the states into beggars with their hand out and congress into spending whores so they can get re-elected. Each state could employ their own pork belly spending programs and their own welfare programs. That would encourage every state to compete against each other for the best program. Also disaster relief should be the obligation of the state and not the federal government. This would encourage each state to have a disaster relief fund instead of a deficit. Property values in ridiculous areas like the Florida coast and California (landslides, Santa Anna fires and earthquakes) would drop to reasonable levels since the States/home owners would know that the federal government is not coming to the rescue. The Federal Government has entirely to much power and they are not answering to us anymore. This 2 party system has broke down.

All I want now is for our "leaders" to show me where the constitution authorizes all of this be-nice that has been going on for the past month.

There are many people in my area that are furious, including myself and my family.

Walt it is not just a US of A problem, it is a global problem. European countries are on the sh@t hole as well as North America...

So before it gets locked I too agree and it is time that the people start governing the government and not the other way around.

Kind of related, kind of not.

I belong to three goat breed societies - one for the dairies, one for the angoras, one for the boers.

The boer goat society charges me around $100 a year, gives me a glossy publication once a year and a reasonable website with an online herdbook, paper registration certificates etc.

The dairy goat society charges me $70 a year, gives me a glossy publication every month, plus a special one at the end of the year, plus a printed herdbook every year, paper rego certificates, plus an excellent website, plus a whole list of other benefits that have me wondering why I didnt just go into dairy goats in the first place.

The angora society charges me $200 a year, I get a black and white paper newsletter once a month, a website that in honesty is improving, an online herdbook that doesnt work half the time and is really confusing, and if I want a rego certificate I have to print one out myself.

What gives?

If the dairy society can manage to do so much for me with 70 bucks a year, where the **** does my $200 go into the angora society?? They cant even manage to get my name right !!!

History also shows us something that I think is interesting. Did you know the Greeks - the founders of democracy - had a rule that each year the people could vote one person out of office. The people could do this. Why? To prevent any one person from becoming too powerful in government. When the people viewed this person as too powerful and a potential threat to the people, they voted him out. He was then cast out of Greece for 10 years. Not as punishment but for insurance to prevent him and his connections from growing too strong.

I think history is a good teacher.

I was watching an SNL special last night and they were doing the "Oh Really" segment. It was pretty good.

I don't think it did a whit of good to help those idiots. They clearly are not going to be anything but business as usual. I find it deplorable that our government did this, especially when there are good folks out there who are going to have a hard go of it through no fault of their own.

Where's my bailout? If the government will pay off my bills, I promise to take a cruise for several weeks, just so they can know their money was well spent.

Seems to me that the governments of the USA and the world are all helpless when a market decides to correct. This correction/shakeout/depression is just going to happen. It is akin to a force of nature.

I went to a Jimmy Buffet concert somewhere in the 80's. Speaking to the crowd, Jimmy said "rest assured that we are spending your money foolishly." I guess government and Wall St types have been

You are just saying what alot of us think anyways. Anything from rich lobbyists, to over-spending, too much government control; a money system that is not backed by gold; lower wages where no one can afford housing, or the high cost of products that are made over-seas now; rising costs due to inflation which is due to the lowering of interest rates; dimishing 401K retirement plans.
Where does it all end? It is extremely frustrating, and makes most of us fightn mad. Go vote... write letters, and do something to at least make your voice heard.
