Ok... it has been years since I had cattle and I will be getting some again this year....
First experience being with longhorns for 10 or so years,...
Second experience being with just a medley of sale barn purchased mixes etc.

Ok.... here is what I am dreaming about, and someone please snap me out of it.

Mixing: Chianina, Main Anjou, Romagnola, and potentially angus....

Let me know what you think of this combo: most likely I would go with chimaine heifers and breed them to a romangus bull....

Or hell... just call me an idiot and get it over with...

Thanks...

Consider it done......

Hahaha! I guess if you are looking for a "terminal cross" that would be it!...just make it black... :lol2:

Seems like a very odd mix.. why does it appeal to you? Are you seeing things in each of the breeds mentioned that you don't think you can find in any one breed?

In Kansas, OK, TX, and other lower midwest states, why those "odd" breeds of cattle to "mix"... what's wrong with angus, baldy, charlolais, simmental, beefmaster, red angus, hereford, longhorn, etc., and similar mixes more common in this part of the country?

Go for it my friend...I love enthusiasm. Should be very interseting to see how calves look and what bulls will look like when they are mature. Why Maine Anjou? Are you doing this for beef or or for like club calves or something? Im sorry but whenever I here Main Anjou I always associate them with Club Calves, same goes for Shorthorn...Im sure at one time they were probably used for beef and still are somewhere but it seems like now everybody that raises them is using them for club calves. IMO

I love the enthusiasm also. Don't let any one on this board discourage you. Do what you want. People on this board are opinionated and they have that right. Same as you to raise what ever you want. Just remeber you get out what you put in.

I like this.....This is a very visual combo.

I would love to hear why you picked these 4.

You may be able to locate some Chi/Angus and Main/angus in your local area.
That will give you a good start.

Look forward to hearing your story about how you chose these 4 great breeds.

romagnola, right?

not thinkin so... just cuzz your one of the odd balls that doesn't like proven cattle such as the britsh and upper continental breeds.... In this region Angus is the way to go... He'll take such a dock at the barn for those mixed calves that it ain't funny.
