I've never bought any cattle or used semen from any Judd raised bulls, so I don't have any personal experience.
I know of two Gelbvieh producers who have bought females from the past and were both disappointed in the performance of the cows. I think they had problems with cows rebreeding following calving and staying in condition. However, I also know a commercial producer who has bought some of the higher priced Judd bulls at their sales over the years and really likes the calves out of those bulls.
I think there is some speculation amongst some Gelbvieh breeders that the Judd's feed their cows better than most producers (lots of creep feed for the calves and possibly supplemental protein for the cows). This may explain why nearly every year in the catalog they are promoting several bulls that weaned off their mama's at over 800 pounds and the cow rebred within 60 days.
So, I would ask the Judd's prior to purchasing any cattle how they feed their cows and calves. You need to determine if the muscling was bred on or fed on
