My neighbor was scheduled for knee replacement. He went in for blood work a week before the date for surgery. They detected nicotine in his blood and cancelled his knee replacement. No explanation, no consultation, just a call from the Doctor's secretary with a brief message that the Doctor cancelled his knee replacement because nicotine in his blood stream made him an unacceptable risk.
