We have a 4240 JD and are having trouble with the ac. We put several compressors on it last year and finally got one that worked, till this summer. Each one we drained the shipping oil and put the correct compressor oil in it. Vaccuumed the system down and filled with 134. Some of the compressors lasted 2 weeks and others a month or maybe more. We changed the orafic, expansion valve and dryer. Can somebody help me out with ideas please? I can't keep replacing this stuff.

You may have a bunch of trash from compressor failure in the complete system might want to look at changing all lines condenser and evaporator. Costly but may be the only solution..

If never heard of draining the "shipping oil". Didn't know there was such a thing. They are supposed to come ready to install and charge. We get all ours from deere.

Flush it till the lines are clean. Use some white rags/paper towels. Replace the drier and either replace or really flush the condensor to be sure it's clean too...are the compressor blowing up or just leaking real bad. What sort of " failure" are you having?

Used to have a 4230 and i bought my compressors from Oreillys, they come empty so make sure you get the right oil for it. I had pretty good luck, just make sure you change the drier and evacuate good and keep the belt tight. They are early model GM compressors and you need to use your old brackets.

Sounds like you did most of the right things. Someone mentioned flushing and I agree that is pretty important to clear any trash left over from the original failure. Only other thing I can think of is high head pressure. The condenser (part in front of radiator) is either plugged up with trash or you're not moving enough air across it.
Thanks y'all for the replies. I've had computer issues on top of everything else. The compressors just lock up when you have run it for 3 to 4 hours.
I have flushed everything, changed the drier and really cleaned the condenser. Before I actually try and run it I'm gonna take the radiator off and spray the condenser down between the fins with oven cleaner and pressure wash it.

Don't use oven cleaner on the aluminum condenser fins.
Use a good degreaser on the fins and wash with water hose. No high pressure it will turn the fins and prevent air going through.

You need a new condenser if you have blown up 5 compressor thru it.....
There is only that part that can trap debris after that many failure.
