I would like to purchase one family milking cow. I have no idea how much I will have to pay for such an animal. Is there a ballpark price.

Different areas seem to carry different prices...I would expect you would pay 1000-1200 for a good young one that is a proven producer....with not to much mix....maybe more in your north east location. Suggest checking with your local sale barn..see what the history is. That should give you an idea. Then suggest you look for one directly off the farm to avoid sale barn exposure.

Just make sure you're sitting down when you price that cow. Unless you want one that's worn out, you're gonna pay a few bucks.Probably a heck of a lot cheaper to buy your own milk.

That's for sure!

Also, don't have to go thru the hassle of milking, cleaning up her and everything else. And...what do you do with the several quarts/gallons of extra milk each day??? that you and yours can't drink, cook with, bathe in. lol.

Butter and buttermilk for sure. We always had fresh home made butter as a kid. Home made butter and a pan of hot cornbread. Yum Yum. Jersey's are best for that. High butter fat.
