JD 1560

My neighbor has one and i have used it a few times . his is a 15 ft , it works good as to get the seed in and covered up. We have steep hills we got a good stand , the only thing I didn't like is you have 2 rows openers that are staggered for trash clearance . When you go along a hill the drill drifts and the row spacing don't stay true , instead you get 2 rows 4-5 in. apart and next 2 rows 10-11 inches apart because of the big offset in the two rows of openers . on the it spaces them fine. I thought it would be a problem with weeds in the wider spaces but it didn't seem to be a problem. I only seeded wheat and rye on the steep hills . I had seeded some hay but that was mostly on the level ( as level as it gets around here ) and it worked fine . I would to find one for myself but I would only need a 10 ft. It is mostly the same as a 750 just newer . I know that the disks can't be left to wear down too far beause it will wear on the boot, and those are costly to replace. I hope that helps you . if you have any other questions just let me know.

I haven;t seen it yet but was assured that the seed box has an agitator as standard. Since I'm looking at drilling bearded brome and maybe some WSG I wanted to be sure before I drive half way across the state to look at it, particuloarly hauling a flatbed.

The one my neighbor has doesn't have an agitator in any of the boxes , I did seed some orchard grass through the grass seed box , it came out of the box okay it didn't sit up , but the hoses going to openers are long and if you are going down grade a little the seed wouldn't flow it would block up the tube , when I went upgrade it was okay . I only had a few acres to do and once I realized what was happening I drove back empty and finished the field one way. I have a 5100 IH drill with a small seed box but it won't handle OG so to sow OG I mix it with about 25lbs/acre oats and seed it thru the grain box, the oats acts as a carrier to take the grass seed thru , My father did that years ago with an old Ontario drill that we had .If you are planning to seed thru the small seed box you might want to look at how the hoses run to make sure that your seed will flow thru for sure . I have no idea what I did that my other post came up 3 times , oops.

My experience is with the older model 750. It takes a big horse to pull it. Especially on hills.
Deere says 100 hp min. I pulled the 750 with an 1135 Massey and with a rented 4440 JD. I wouldn't recommend anything smaller.
I don't know about the agitator. I think it is an option.
