What instrument do you play, Grandpa?
Like the guy at the beginning of the video, my instrument is Tuba. Got a performance degree from the University of Kentucky in 1974 studying with the late, great Rex Conner, then spent 33 years as a high school band director here in Texas. Loved every minute of it and loved the kids. No Child Left Behind and all the testing crap helped me decide to retire. More politics in school now than there is teaching.

Concert audiences used to be attentive and quiet like the cows in that video. Later they became more like a crowd at a pep rally. My own cows would be tackling that tuba player to see if there was feed in the bell. :lol2:

Good for you. My oldest boy and his wife both played the trombone in high school and college. They met when they were both members of the U. of Illinois Marching Illini. My son's high school band was very good and won lots of competitions for many years. They even marched in the Tournament of Roses parade in Pasadena back in '96. His band director, now retired, is still a close friend of his. I don't know where he got it from since his mother and I were never mucically talented.

WE always had the radio on in the freestyle barn for the Holsteins, they liked anything that was not grunge or heavy metal. It did seem to make a difference in their behaviour, they seemed more content when they came in for milking. :?

I play the alto sax and clarinet Van, my sister and I were also in a marching band together. We actually played at Disneyland one time .

When I was in high school I played Tenor sax in the college band .

Nice to see so many here with music and band ties. I play in a community band, so this is my 50th year to be involved with it in some way. I have to admit I don't miss marching band after 33 years and over 500 games, including 83 playoff games.
