I wanted to share some photos I took yesterday of the bottle calf Jewel. She looks like shes filling out to me and growing. Im getting feed into her, abeit, handfeeding, but we are working on it. She is also chewing hay. I dropped her bottle down from 8 quarts a feeding to 6 quarts a feeding so she'll be hungry and want to eat her feed. Monitoring her poop..no scours to speak of yet, thank goodness. And yes, as before, Im aware of the weeds in the roundpen where shes staying..It is safe for her to be in there Im told, so no worries. When shes big enough to hold her own, she'll be out in the pens and pasture where Jam is. but that will be abit.

Huh?

Its awful windy..(we had gusts of over 50 MPH yesterday)

Casey(my son) and Jewel. He has really taken an active role with her and he worked with her abit last night getting her to lead. She has been pretty good about it. Im impressed with how laid back she is.

And one of Jam, who is getting mighty round on the grass out there. She has her days where shes very social and wants to be scratched abit and other days when you can tell by her demenor that she wants me to dump her cubes and just go back home.

Thanks for letting me share, I welcome any comments. Im hear to learn and I dont consider any of my animals to be utterly perfect, because no such thing exists.

Looks like you're doing a great job with the calf...And Jam is still beautiful. I got one that would pass for her twin....suppose to calf late this month. Way to go.

She's bred to Singletary of Brinks. He's a Camp Cooley Ranch bull...Singletary sold a year or so ago for around $140 grand I beleive it was.

jam sure is fat an sassy.an jewel sure is growing like a weed an filling out nicely.
thanks BB..she sure is, shes getting a nice roundness to her midsection. I dont know if I could lift Jewel like I could when I got her now.

She seems to get drawn up during the day and then fills back out when shes fed. She is drinking, but its been dreadfully hot here, as Im sure both you and Richard have been experiencing as well. Is this normal?

If my eyes deceive me, please accept my apologies, but it looks like you've got the lead of the halter on the wrong side. The lead should always be on the left of the animal as this is where the handler will walk if the animal is shown.

If you have no intention of showing the animal I guess it don't make any difference, but if there is a chance that you might, you might as well put it on correctly and train the calf right from an early age.

Fine looking cattle you have. Looks like Casey is enjoying his project. Keep up the good work with both the cattle raising and the child raising. :tiphat:

AWW Knersie, be fair to the southpaws of the world !
Then again, I've always taught my animals to walk on both sides, so that they will not be startled by someone on the wrong side.

Thanks Knersie..as username said though, we teach our animals all sides..even the horses and they get taught to be mounted from both sides as well.

Ive had to lead more then one horse at a time numerous times and it sure comes in handy to have them broke to either side.

So with the calf, we alternate sides...but thanks for the concern. :)

Thanks Jogeephus-Casey enjoys his calf alot.
