Heifers will calve in the next 60 days. Does worming with Ivermectin affect calving? Is Ivermectin a good choice? When is the "right" time to worm?

I spoke with the folks from Merial about this same thing a couple of weeks ago. They manufacture the IVOMEC pour online of Ivermectin dewormer. According to them there are no restrictions as to when and to what age the cattle may be to be dewormed. I currently dewrom twice a year spring and fall. My vet recommends that I increase it to every three months. This would not be a major problem for me since I don't have a large number of cattle. Some research has suggested that weaning weight can be increased as much as 25 to 35 pounds in most calves if parasites are properly controlled. My heifers started calving 4 weeks ago and we are trying it this year to see if we can notice differences in feed consumption and overall health.

i would wait till after they calve. biggest reason bumping around and injury too the calf. also ive heard that a wormer will really go to town on em right after they calve and work better because their hormones are going crazy at that timeAF Ranch":29lgwabb said:

That is a great idea especially if you have large framed cattle. I had a beefmaster that I really didn't feel comfortable having go in the squeeze chute. She was about as wide as a VW when she had her calf.
