Went to the farm yesterday and all the cows were in the west part of the pasture. Figured they were out of hay because they're usually around the hay ring. Nope, pulled in the gate and there's almost half a bale left. Had to drive over there and see for myself, and sure enough, the grass is back!

Is this about normal for your area? Spring came early for me last year, and growth ended up pathetic.

Yes, it's pretty normal. The main reason I'm happy to see it is I started feeding hay at the end of September, when it's usually early December. Still have some left, but it's nice to know I'll have a start on next year's supply. It also means my liquid feed bill will drop significantly.

Now, I'm just hoping for more rain because our lake is just about 9' low and my tanks could use a little, too. Like GB said it'd be nice to keep things green and not crispy.

I thought the green was right around the corner for us....then i woke up and seen 26 on the thermometer. Might be a few more weeks.

Glad you got some green stuff slick. Lane, we were 29 this morn. Green up, freeze, repeat.

We have been blessed this winter and we are greening up pretty quickly. We have an abundance of Fescue, which was a game changer for us.

I am seeing blades of grass. I don't think we are far off. This morning was winter. Frozen rain underneath. I had to use a pry to get the truck door open. Made it out to the farm and the cows had ice cycles on them. But I would rather have this than those freak 70s that we had in February 12. This has been a normal winter without those weird out of season temperatures. I am hoping for a more median spring and summer than we had last year. I like normal rhythms.

Yep it is coming back and has absolutely zero nutrients in it.
It is virtually worthless right now.
They will cough and you better not be twenty feet behind one.
I have started aerating the pasture's.

You will be better off in the long run to keep them off of the grass if you have enough hay to wait awhile. Let it build a root sytem if you can.

No squirts so far. Guess they are still munching on the hay enough to keep that down. Can't keep them out of that part of the pasture because that's their water source. The other two pastures are closed, tho.

Banjo, the grass that's coming in now will be dead in two months anyway..........

Lucky all you guys that got grass growing! I dreamt about green grass last night! We had grass this time last year, and it was 60-82 degrees all march! Now its more "normal" with 15" of snow and 0-35 degrees. Wow what a difference a year makes, I liked the early spring last year in a way, but "normal" would be OK with me too. Maybe we will have "normal" precip too this year :?: :?: :?:

.....anything that can survive a light frost and dies after sustained high temperatures.
