I've been keeping a close eye on some of our local sale reports and the steers and heifers have still been pretty strong but pairs and bred cows on average have fallen off. Is this just the seasonal trend or is something up? I know grass is in short supply but the way prices have been the past couple of years I would think people would be trying to build up their number of head right now but maybe thats where the grass comes into play. Opinions please.[/b]

Youm said it when you said grass and hay were in short supply. People in my area of northeast Texas are not too interested in taking a cow home. Many are getting sold because they do not have the resources to feed this winter or that thye are out of water.

Shortage of hay doesn't seem to be applying up here, but I have seen the price of bred beef cows/heifers drop off here as well...

Let you know next week...the bred cow/replacement sale is on Monday....up here the prices went up last week and have been holding steady all season.
