I'm in the process of getting an appointment at the UGA vet clinic to have my 8 year old, overweight Black Baldy's hooves trimmed. She came to me with vertical cracks on both front feet (likely from being overweight) but this week she broke off a piece of hoof on both front feet. Is this fixable? I know the vertical cracks aren't but I'm hoping it's an easy fix with a trim. Really hoping for good news but would rather not be surprised at the clinic if it is seriously bad news.

Can't say for sure with cows, but with horses it is amazing how the hoof can repair/rebuild itself.
Trimming and weight loss will no doubt help. With horses certain vitamins and or mineral are important to
the health of the hoof. And your vet will help you with that. :)
