Is this any kind of sign or indicator?

One of my cows came in and the bull copulated with her under my observation a number of times on Dec 19, 2011. Today (Dec 28, 2011) I was looking at her posterior during feeding and I observed a clear sting of mucus about 8 inches long hanging from her vulva. I know we have all seen this before at various phases of the reproductive cycle. My question is this, "Is this any indicator or sign of negative/positive conception?" Thanks

Yes, it can be, usually before calving...but I don't think it's a reliable indicator that the cow's going to calve within a day or so, could be much longer than that.

I have a steer that his mom had a hanging string for 3 months. We bamed him booger for obvious reasons. In fact thats what got me here.

Ten years of breeding cows for a living has taught me that you can't ever guess anything based on vaginal discharges. Clear clean mucus form a cow that I already decided was in heat is about as close to a sign as it gets, otherwise do yourself a favor and pretend you didn't see it.

'pretend you didn't see it' sounds good.
I look at the dates and think - that's a ten day cycle. But I'd want to see behaviour as well, and a reason for a short cycle.
We might even have discussed it often enough also... a cow in heat isn't necessarily a sign that she isn't pregnant.
