production? I've got several red angus heifers that have just calved and have calves on them. Some have a larger utter compared to others. Do the smaller uttered animals give less milk?

Sometimes. How's that for a definitive answer? The amount of milk isn't as important as the adequacy of the milk. Does she have enough, not is there a lot there? We have an old Hereford that has no udder to speak off. Here tetas alwasy look all wrinkled ansd shriveled. Calf starts to nurse and there is milk dribbling every where. When it finishes, still no udder and the teats still look all shriveled. But she raises a heavy calf every year.

I think milk quality is more important. (higher butter fat?) Qualities I want in a 1st calver or cow would be good delivery system--teats that a calf can fit in its mouth, and quality of milk as seen in the performance and growth of the calf. But if it comes to 2 females that both raise a nice calf, I absolutely prefer the one with udder-appeal!

I've got some LSF Combination calves that are coming off right now. I sure hope their mommas fill'em up with milk. BTW, no calving problems with Combination.
