In all seriousness, I absolutely love where I live and am forever telling people to suck it up when they complain about the cold in the winter and the warm in the summer because I love all four seasons. But this winter has been tough. We are used to snow, and lots of it,but that snow combined with Bez type cold has been tough for us. We just got our fourth snow even that gave us over 36" in 24 hours. My guess is that we must be close to 20 feet of snow so far this year. This one was an especially dense, heavy snow and was tough to move because our banks were so frozen in and stiff. Thought I would try to take some decent pics of the cleanout. I did neglect to get pics of the 9 foot snowblower on the back of the Ford. Thank goodness for it though.

D17 at work!

Red Pine Stand. Nothing grabs and holds that lake-effect snow better.

Thanks it's beautiful up there. We have a place on Grindstone Island, in Jefferson co. Never been there in the winter yet, 29 years and counting.

highrit, we are right on the line between Oswego and Jefferson county. You are welcome to stop in anytime! Lots of beautiful little islands on the lake but I'm not familiar with Grindstone. Is that off route 3 somewhere?

Pres, lots of those same plow blades used as decoration in front of town barns these days. They sure look pretty mean.

I must be at about the same latitude as you but we only have about 2 feet of snow here in Maine. Not a bad winter except December and January has been colder than normal.

I was listening to the radio this morning reporting on the "big" snow storm down south. The guy said all the schools were closed for two days and was warning everyone to stay off the roads.

He said they thought they were going to just get a dusting but instead got over two inches of snow.

Two inches? I wonder what people in places like Russia think of the U.S. when they hear reports like that.

It's right across the river from Clayton NY. And it's the 2nd largest island in the Saint Lawrence Seaway. We might just stop by sometime. The land been in my wife's family for 150+ years. We're thinking about bringing a tractor and bailing equipment up and cutting hay off the farm.
I am sure you know about the tax rates, they are very high 14k per year now. So we need to put it back into a active working farm. I am even thinking about a few cows for the summer season. The savings on taxes for Ag exemption will pay for our vacations every year and then some. We don't mind paying our fair share of taxes, but it's getting out of hand.

I'm only an hour from Clayton. Taxes for anything on the St. Lawrence are insane. Taxes for anywhere in New York are bad. I looked into a camp just past Alexandria Bay. No way. I will rent a cottage for 2 weeks instead.
