I ran him over the winter of 2024-25 with the replacement heifers then he went to summer pasture with them until October. Then he was just on hay til he went to the feedlot end of November. His in weight at feedlot was 984# as I recall. Has been on feed around 150 days. I should have hot carcass weight tomorrow and the feedlot closeout sheet next week. He was not our top genetics - born late and was smaller framed as a calf and yearling. There's gonna be some surprises when I get all the data.
 
This is the report card for your cattle program! Very nice looking steer that anyone would be proud of. This is what your customers want to have when they buy those calves to raise.

Enjoy some good eating and have some satisfaction for dessert. That calf would sell at the top of the sale most places in this country. Be proud and use the feedback from the processor and your taste-buds to evaluate your program.
 
Live weight is difficult to estimate from a photo without reference points, and even then it is difficult. The ticket says he weighed 1,655 # before I picked him up. I will apply a 3% shrink, which puts the pay weight at 1605. I am hearing fats at $250+. That puts his live value at $4,013.

Waiting now on HCW from the processor so we can calculate dressing percentage.

He was lean, but not 65%. I think I figured him at 61.5%. They’ve got to be pretty wrung out to hit that magical 64%.
