Investing in bulls/cattle genetics

How does buying a "share" or a partial interest in a bull work? Every now and then you see someone offering this... What are the typical terms, risks and profit/payout plans associated with bull shares? Are there any other ways to invest in the cattle (live)stock market?

You buy interest to gain percentage of the bull's total value over his lifetime, with the greatest value coming for semen sales. Lots of bulls that get bought for partial interest that never pay back their value. It's a big-boys game.
