injection leakage

having trouble with injection site leakage with draxin and nuflor r gold. using 16ga needle, tenting skin in neck area. 50% of the time or more the meds leak out. I rarely have this problem with micotil using the same method.

Withdraw the needle with your finger right at the injection site. As Soon as the needle is out, massage the site and work it in

Like hook said massage the injection site after withdrawal. Also a 16g is a big needle, I haven't used either of those meds before so I'm not sure how thick the solution is. But the smaller the gauge of the needle the better. Even with the thickest solutions I usually use a 18 or 20g. With vaccs I'll drop to a 22g. With a 16 your leaving a pretty big hole until it closes.

Point your needle in the downward position so gravity will help

i use an 18 gauge for draxxin & try to make sure needle is clear through skin

I use 18 gauge, sometimes on old cows and bulls, I will use a 16 gauge. Sometimes I use 20 gauge on calves. The thick antibiotics like LA 200/300 are difficult to draw into a narrow gauge needle then it is difficult to inject. As mentioned about, place a finger on the exposed portion of the needle just before withdrawal to seal the needle hole. Withdraw the needle and rub the vaccine in.
