infection?

Help Support CattleToday:

My understanding is that uterine infections don't actually throw a temp - that they need to be palpated for confirmation. Is that right?

angus-- depends on whether it's acute, ie a fresh cow that didn't clean, or chronic.

I'll probably have the vet come look at her. Otherwise, procedurally I should:

1. check temp
2. apply antibiotics regardless? which one?
3. lut her in case she hasn't cleaned?

Is stuff like this contagious? Just got done doing my ai and was going to let the bull in next week. She wasn't ai'd because of her calving date - was just going to put the bull on her.

Till you know for sure if she has an infection or not it doesn;t make a whole lot of sense to either AI or turn to bull in with her. It may just be vaginal and flushing her without screwing around with the cervix/uterus would help in that case.
