I got the same question. Did you put the wall down in lifts and concurrently compact them or did you use a commercial clay. About 40% of the ponds here do not hold water.

We have the same problem down here. Applying bentonite before filling the excavation seems to work well.

We had our bulldozer operator approve the spot we wanted the pond and then we crossed our fingers. The clay came right out of the hole. Must be our local soil because we have three other ponds that didn't go dry even in the drought of 2012.
