You guys who routinely buy one and done cows; have you ever implanted them after they calve?
I wonder if an implant would help them flesh out more, milk more, or both?

I know several guys who implant cull cows and then feed them for a while before they sell them. Seems to work well.

Probably 65 years ago before implants were a common thing the neighbor’s dad always ran a bull with his fat hfrs. Said they always seemed to grow better when they were knocked up.
 
Most claim not but we found implants in heifer calves had negative effects on their milking ability later in life. Have implanted cows going to feed and slaughter, they can add a frame score and a larger percentage of red meat to fat.

I'm not big on artificial hormones, which is what I think you are talking about rather than implanting embryos.
I've seen some impressive weight gain/condition results from spaying. I think that might be a better option.
 
I was reading implant as ET rather than hormone implants. But we do kick a bull in with them. Settling them down, no heats to go through. It is only about 3 months max before slaughter so they haven't put much energy into growing the embryo at that stage.

I’ve never seen spaying done . I’m guessing there’s a learning curve.
I was just wondering if I bought some aged cows to calve and then pound out after they weaned their calves. If implants would help them gain.

Spaying is fairly common in some areas of the west. We did over 300 head of heifers a few years back in a little over 5 hours. The vet was real good. Fast and inexpensive but it is not just the vet. It took a pretty good size crew to do all of the other tasks required. Along with the vet and his assistant there was 4 other people at the chute. Plus 2 of us pushing up heifers to keep heifers coming at the rate of one per minute.
