That the reason cows lose condition after calving is due to trying to keep up with the calf. This calf is just over a month old and all of a sudden he will kick up his heelsn tear out on a run. The sheep try to keep up and play and momma chases them all. I could watch for hours, except either the calf or momma gets tired and its over

yep. Some calves will worry their mommas to death. They'll chase and beller after stuff and get them all worked up. I've seen em chase after my dogs, the barn cats, the goats, just about anything. I never get tired of watchin em. Seems like the calves with the most protective mommas really like to do that- I guess they know they have backup if they get into too much trouble.
