The black hereford association is yhe only one that recognizes them. Come up with your own "whatever" crossbreed and you could form an association, and have "registered whatevers".

Couldn't have said it any better. They call 'em black Herefords, I call 'em baldies. They're the same damn thing - crossbreds.

Actually, in the US I could buy 30 crossbred commercial calves off of your place breed them too each other and call the progeny purebred "Brandons" and if I can get some folks to buy Brandon bulls to breed their cows up to Brandon level and if they pay for registration papers and their yearly membership fee (you can buy a lifetime membership for the low price of $300) then WALLAH! a new breed is born! They could be exhibiting in Denver in five years. Selling papered cows is 9/10s marketing. I don't know whether we are going to see the American cattle business settly on about a dozen commercially useful breeds or if we are going to continue to see a proliferation of new breeds. The Black Herefords are now their own breed if breed is defined as any group of cows possessing an association that will write papers on them.

Well, being a big sucker for baby calves, I call them beautiful. ;-)

They look like my herefords, well 'cept for the obvious difference. They do have that hereford hair texture and that white strip on the back, don't they.

Actually, I came across the black hereford association site when I was surfing the net some time back. That's the first I'd ever heard of any such.

However, sadly, I have to wonder if this is a promotional type thing with someone hoping to get rich quick behind it. Like the others said, anybody can form an association and register anything they like. This could very well be an association of one. But then, what do I know?

I've always thought these so called black Herefords looked like a typical Holstein/Hereford cross ie. feathering on the crest and other Hereford markings, unlike the Angus/Hereford cross (black baldy).

now folks dont go callen them calves baldys and dont be callen them herefords neather. i raise both and them cattle dont fit. them ther calves have got them selves some kind o large breed or milken cow in em. i aint tryen to hurt on ya son but name your cattle somethen else. you go right ahead an start all the breeds ya want. ya got as much right as the next man just dont go bringen down the good name hereford has by doen it. take a hard look at what angus done to its self with all the inbreeden. now do ya really want to go ahead and do the same dang thing to herefords?

Dog you have some good lookin critters there your problem is you keep trying to market them under Black Herefords, that dog aint going to hunt. My question is if you cross hereford with Brangus can we register them as Super Black Herefords.

Now if you want to make a composite breed that has some bang for its buck from north to South and east and west.
Cross herfs with brangus have the 3 essential beef breeds in the US in that cross Herf, Angus, and Brammer.
That would be as good or better than a Beefmaster in less percentage of brammer for cold climates, could get in on the CAB deal.

What could we call them? Super Baldies? No we need something fancy for the papers.
