I'LL HAVE ANOTHER out of the Belmont Stakes, out of the Trip

I totally understand the owner's reasoning. Just disappointed -- it's been a long time since a Triple Crown winner.

The Idaho horse, Rousing Sermon, didn't do well in the Derby and didn't run at Preakness. I don't think he's signed up for Belmont, either.

I thought these guys were GAMBLERS, guess I was wrong.
A triple crown winner would command a much higher stud fee than an "almost" triple crown winner. Todays earning (fees) are too good to pass up, I guess. They can go sit over with the 0.005% bonds crowd. Enjoy the sobriety over there. I hope their trophy wives leave them for shoe salesmen.

A living KD and Preakness winner will command 100% more stud fees than a horse that goes down and has to be destroyed at the Belmont.

Triple Crown Winner would be LOTS more than that.

Absolutely, John! But if they ran I'LL HAVE ANOTHER at Belmont, and he broke down with something busted because he has a leg problem (and he does have a leg problem) . . . . -0- stud fees. I don't think there's another living stallion out there right now that can claim those first 2 wins of the Triple Crown -- I could be wrong about that. ??

I thought horse people had all kinds of money anyway. Can't believe people let money get in the way of a good time. I can see by the hats the women wear, the men have no hmm.

The stud fees will be enormous. I would take the bird in hand personally. But, I'm a farmer. I've spent maybe $200 at the track in my life.
Owners and trainers are gamblers. You could go to Farm Bureau meetings for a lifetime and never see a pinky ring. Go to the track and you'll see a dozen before the first race. I don't understand why they don't take the chance, unless the horse is already unsound. He may go down, but heck, you may get hit by a bus on the way to the race. It just sounds like they have a payment coming due and can't really take a chance unless they want their pinky rings repossed by a very large man in a dark suit.

John, the KD/Preakness winner IS unsound! That's why they pulled him for Belmont. Here's a link: http://www.miamiherald.com/2012/06/08/2840175/ill-have-another-is-retired-on.html

Actually, there are quite a few, Kathie. Here's a list of horses that have won the Derby and Preakness, many of them quite recently:

I'm with you 100% on not running the horse in the Belmont if there's a potential problem. Can't take that chance. Personally, I don't care if the horse is worth millions or a plug nickel, the welfare of the animal comes first. Too bad. I was looking forward to it. I'll bet NBC's ratings will take a heckuva hit tomorrow, too.

The horse has tendonitis, according to that Miami story Kathy linked. If he scratched for tendonitis, OK. If he scratched because the owners won/ Don't want the risk, OK. Truth is a commodity is short supply around the track.

We may never know, John. ???? Just going with the reason trainer and owner gave.
