We found a 12 day old calf dead as the proverbial door nail Saturday morning. Friday evening he was running around with the other calves; Saturday he was layout stiff as board with his feet uphill. :( I swear cows could find a way to die even if you babysat them all day, everyday. On the bright side, I'd rather loose a calf than a cow.

Absolutely - from day to day, you never know. Had 5 calves born in past two days. Weighed & tagged. One born yesterday kept in barn overnight (keep in for 24-48 hours). Went out to turn them out this morning and he can't put weight on his front leg. "Assuming" dam stepped on him ???, but she is an old pro, hard to believe. Gave him some Banamine and kept in.
