If you had to choose a heifer, which one would it be (edit: and what prompts that pick over the others)? It should be noted that the speckled heifer has not been in the same environment as the other two for very long, so she isn't in quite the same flesh.

Oh hard choice, I think they all look really nice! If I had to choose just one, (without seeing them move) I guess it would be #2.
But again, I don't think you could go wrong with any one of them!

#1 is what would fit in best with what I have.

What mineral do you feed? I have a sneaking suspicion #1 is low on copper... see that "netting" in her fur? When my cattle were low on copper they had that exact pattern... Just a thought. #3 shows it a little bit too

Speckled. She's more feminine, with a notch more length and nicer hip than the other red. The yellow is easily at the bottom for me. Too straight through her hock and short hipped. Not as loose made. Either of the other two look like they'll make better brood cows. :2cents:

It's call Min-Lic. It's a molasses based tub that only contains minerals and IGR (no protein). It's not cost-efficient, though. I suspect I'll go to the Purina wind and rain loose mineral if I can find it somewhere close by.

I would look for a loose mineral that is designed for your area.. I don't put a whole lot of trust in a mineral product that's sold nationwide. In a loose mineral, I would look for about 2000-2500 ppm copper. I've seen big improvements since I did a blood sample and got the right stuff

I see that you wanted to know the reason for our choice.....
I chose #2 because I like the angle of her hip and rear legs better than the other two. All have nice clean underlines.
Again, movement and feet could change things. But from the pics, they all look pretty good. #2 a bit better.
Great photography BTW! :D

I think you just like #2 because she's fatter, and more like what you have :)

They all have better and worse points, I really like the nice straight back on #3, #2 has a good deep chest, and #1 seems to show more muscling, though #2's fat may be hiding some of that. I think all of them have the potential to be good cows, and pretty isn't always productive I found too

Do I have to pick 1 can I just take all 3 lol very nice set of girls. I think I would take 2 but give me a min might change my mind.

Here, let me jump all over the place........I like the speckled cow's color the best. That is really pretty. I agree with Ricebeltrancher on the #3 being more feminine. But I can see she has a layer of fat, as there are no bones showing over her hips. Her tail head is still pronounced and the muscling has not developed in this areas. It appears to go flat over her loins, but then goes peaked over her rib cage. She doesn't appear to be as wide in the hips as #2. She could use a bit more muscling in the lower buttock area, as # 2. The #2 cow's muscling is not all fat. I have seen very heavy cattle that had light muscling and it did not extend the muscling if they didn't have it in the first place. It may add more fat to the muscle just as it does any animal. #3 has a bit longer hip and a bit more muscle ties well down into the hock area.

#3 is shallower through the flank and less spring of the ribs. Her leg is straighter.
I do like her head an neck better, but the other cow is caring a lot more weight.

What I have said does not make #2 a bad cow. It is just my opinion. If she was in my herd, I would hang on to her and see how she did. A picture is so deceiving. I do like #2 and #3 over #1.

I would not get rid of #1 either as I would wait and see how she does. How old are these heifers. If you told this, I somehow missed it.

Partly true Nesi! Wouldn't want to ruin my style with a skinny butt on my place!
I like big butts and I can not lie!

you're splitting hairs here, all three are of very much the same merit, slightly different types. All three has faults, but none of them are close to being a cull.

I prefer 2 and 1 over the 3 heifer because what looks to be more natural thickness. #2 has a little more set to her hind legs which may be how she is standing. #1 is borderline getting straight. Nothing really wrong with any of them in this day in age.

If I had choose one out of the group, I would choose the second heifer. I like her depth and her hind quarter more than the other heifer's.

Are they all for sale? If they are, I would try to buy all three, but the price would have to be right for my area. I don't know much about
judging cattle, but I like all 3 of them.
