Idea for a contest?

Don't know if this is the right way to give an idea for a future contest or if that's even how it works. But I would be interested in a contest of pictures of some of our members local salebarns, maybe current or older pictures. Just an idea that would be interesting to me, but might not be to anyone else.

I'll stay out of that one. With Los Angeles and San Francisco within driving distance people here get REAL nervous when we see someone taking pictures of anything livestock related. I can get away with it since they know me and I drive a one-ton flatbed and wear a cowboy hat but I won't do it out of respect.
It would be my luck that my photo would show a lame cow or something like that that some lib would see and use to shut down my salebarn. :frowns:

I don't know of any around here that go out of business. We might get a PR mess and they might get sued or used as propaganda but they stay in business by shear volume. We ARE to the point where cancer-eyes, stifles, skinnies, etc, get turned away before they get off the trailer. We've all decided as an industry that it's better to put those down on the ranch and waste the meat than it is to risk losing our market for good beef due to someone with a camera that doesn't understand what they see.

It's supposed to happen here. Mostly commercial truck drivers collect from the farms and drop cows off at sales/abbatoir. It's the driver's discretion whether to let them on the truck but they can be prosecuted if the cow is later determined unfit to have been transported - and the farmer will be prosecuted as well. I've seen 1 - 2 cases reported so prosecutions do happen. Most people are realistic, even I'll say the 'fit for transport' recommendations are too tight.
