So when everyone says my cows get have to get bred in 60 days how long after they calve do you turn a bull in with them then because i was thinking a little to quick if you give them 60 days from the time they calve

very rarely do any of my cows get bred in 60 days.they run with the bull year round.an they get bred when he breeds them.some people on here turn their bulls out for 60 days an thats it.thus 60 days is there breeding season.an they cull any open cows at weaning time.

They are saying you need a set calving period, so figure out the months/days you want to calve. Now after they calve make sure that the first day you turn the bull in will coincide with said period and then pull the bull/s at 60 days.

But do what is right for you and your operation, I am going to a 6 week breeding season next year; but I know some that do it like Big Bull as well as some that let the bull stay for 3 or 4 months.

You wouldn't turn the bull in right after calving unless you wanted a continual calving cycle that is well spread out.

As an example we calve about May 1st to about June 15th. The bulls wouldn't go in with the cows until the end of July to achieve that calving time. The 60 day rule is a general rule that some use as a guideline for how long they want there calving period to be.

To maintain a 365-day calving interval (i.e. so your cow has a calf every 12 months), she has 80 to 85 days from the time she drops her calf until she needs to be rebred. (365 days - 282 day gestation = 83 days)

In a perfect world, the bull would go in 83 days after the first calf was born and breed every cow exactly 83 days after she had calved. It doesn't work quite that way as some cows come into heat a little sooner than others while another might come in a little later.

We have run in a 45-day calving season for many years. Year in and year out, we average about 93% of the cows bred in the 45-day period. Usually at least 80% calve in the first 21 days of the calving season. Last spring we had over 90% of one herd of 339 cows from the upper ranch calved in 17 days. It makes short work out of the calving process.
