I am now truly without words ......

Sorry M5, this is really not a pile on, but the date of his inquiry on rape charges and the overall lack of university/coach control is just shocking and this was the last straw ...... I'm truly speechless.

As usual people looking to make something out of nothing. I watched it as it happened and the ref was standing to the side. Last I checked the ref has control of the game and if it had of been a big deal he would have ejected him. It's just a witch hunt by Pac 12, sec, and all others that don't want FSU in the playoffs. If fsu is so weak I would think they would want that cupcake game in the semi or finals.

Sorry M5, on this I'm in complete disagreement with you, the ref almost fell down, tripped over a foot of the guard probably. It's simple, "you cannot make contact with an official" PERIOD. this is not as much against Winston as it is about protecting a super star. Very, very disappointing. Btw, I always enjoy you post and insight, I would be just as upset if Mariota has done what Winston has done and I would no longer be a Duck fan. Someone should rein this kid in, sit him down and make him understand right from wrong.

I hope this stays a serious conversation and not FSU or Winston bashing.

Nobody, likes playing cupcakes.
Playing one in a championship game just belittles the championship, and this is why we no longer use the BCS formula and it's popularity contests--cupcake opponents in that kind of game lends credence to the belief that the 2 best teams in NCAA Div1 really didn't play each other.

I have no problem if the official felt like it should have been called and called it. Their were also 7 more refs on the field looking at it. They should have called several more calls in that game also alot of holding calls. I spent alot of years on a baseball field, basketball court and even a few football games as a ref and umpire. Until a person does that and is in the middle of a game and in the heat of the moment. I don't take what reporter that Has never played with anything but himself very seriously. Like I said its a witch hunt plain and simple. While Winston has brought alot of this on himself, if it was anybody else it would not be discussed.

Really, looks like most of SEC played cupcakes this past weekend. And several coaches have expressed lately that they need these games on the schedule.

I for one hope that fsu makes the playoff and beats each team by 1 point just to see what everyone s says about how they didn't dominate the game and why they didn't deserve to win because they play in the ACC or what ever excuse they come up with.

Alan, I've watched that several times and to be honest I don't know what to think of it. I agree it looks bad and I've never really seen anything like that happen before. When first watched it I felt like Winston was out of control there but the more I watch it and the fact that no flag was thrown it seems that the ref was in the way. I still don't understand what the ref was trying to tell him. I do agree that Winston should not have touched him much less pushed him but the ref didn't seem to take it wrong.

M5 did you see any of the Alabama game last night? I didn't really watch it but every time I turned over to it it seemed like Bama had a player on the ground. Not from the team they were playing last night but because they were injured from the last two games against LSU and MSST. You say what you want about the SEC but they play smash mouth football and it's rough on them. We're talking about boys who have promising careers in the NFL. They play 8 conference games and each one is hard. Is it fair to ask them to play harder out of conference games just to please the spectators? Besides for really Alabama, LSU and maybe Auburn and Florida most of them are only worried about competing strong in the conference and going to a decent bowl not winning national championships. Why should they risk getting those boys hurt in out of conference games that don't matter anyway?
And what about those "cupcake" teams? They want these games. It brings in a lot of money for their on programs. For instance Ole Miss played Presbyterian a couple of weeks ago. Presbyterian got $400, 000 for that one game and are going to use the money to put lights in their own stadium.

You should also look at this.

Also I notice according to ESPN the SEC is the only conference that plays these cupcake schools. Well I remember Appalachian State beating one of the big schools in the Big Ten a couple of years ago. I wouldn't call Appalachian State a powerhouse.

Playing these smaller schools hurts the SEC teams in the rankings. It's hurting Miss State now. They played a very weak out of conference teams this year. If they would have scheduled some stronger teams and beat them they would probably be ranked first or second instead of forth and it will probably keep them out of the playoffs altogether before its over.

Your not going to get an argument from me on non conference games. These schools need to play a power 5 conference team to improve their program. Just like FSU non conference schedule this year ok st. ND, citadel(cup cake), Florida. It's not our fault those 3 teams did not meet expectations this season. While it can be said we should have beat them all by 50 it didn't happen our offense and defense is not the same team as last year. I agree the SEC conference games are tough but on the flipside in a normal year there are only 2 maybe 3 SEC teams that are dominate this year it was 5 or so. Next year it may only be 1 or 2. You play the games your scheduled and win the game that's what matter in the real world. This year with a committee not telling the schools how they were determining the lineup it has favored the team's that beat their opponents by wider margins. For argument sake.next year our defense is better and offense clicks and we start running the score up on teams because the committee has set a precedent that you need to win big y'all will be saying FSU is taking advantage of teams and being unsportsmanlike. When your the whipping post you kind of get used to it. Seems as if everyone has forgotten the 90's when FSU beat the pants off of everyone for about 10 years.

You are right about the committee wanting to see teams dominate in a game and I don't like it. Dan Mullens has taken his foot off the gas in several games this year even in some conference games and give up some trash time scores making the games look tighter than they really were. It has cost Miss State some points in the ratings so last night he blower Vanderbilt out 51-0. That's not his nature but he felt pressured to do it because of the committee. That's not good for anybody. It beats down the losing team and doesn't give younger players a chance to get some experience which is what a lot of these cupcake games are really about.

Seriously Alan? You'd no longer be a Duck fan over something a minor as this?

Deepsouth, normally a ref stands over the ball to stop play while the defense makes substitutions to counter subs sent in by the offense. This is a relatively new rule. Technically the ref was out of position.

Yes I am serious, it's not just shoving the ref, it was on the ref to throw the flag by the way. As stated it was not just shoving the ref, the hand slap for stealing crab legs, the cover up for the alleged rape, the postponing of the school hearing until 2 days after the end of the season. This, for me is not about FSU or Winston, it's about the corruption of a COLLEGE sports program. It's enough to lose me as anyone's, any team's, sports in general fan. Your a big time star so we'll get you past the rape allegations, shop lift no problem, we got this ........ Just shove the ref no one is going to throw a flag.

Yes, for me this is serious and disappointing and evidently the last straw for me.

Just to add clarity to my feelings on the subject, I have read the Winston's police report on the alleged rape.

He's just a kid.

Yea I know, other his dumb azz kid stunts and after reading the rape report, I believe it to be a rape. According to her story in the report she kept saying no and telling him to stop. Also his roommate came in the room and told him to stop. So he got up, took her to the bathroom, locked the door and completed the act. That's on Winston.

This rant is about the people in authority, The coach has done nothing except give him a half game for yelling vulgar stuff on top of a table and if you know what he yelled you also know his thoughts on rape. the administration has done nothing except cover things up and delay his hearing until after the season is over. law enforcement swept everything under the rug and wouldn't pursue charges, the game officials seems to be the last straw for me.

Again this could have happened on any campus and many athletes have gotten away with rape on different campus's. So again "the kid" needs to be held responsible for his actions. But the good ol'e boys need to be hung out to dry for the message they are sending to all their athletes.

I'll do my best to get off my soap box now! :D :tiphat:
