Hybrid Vigor question

As mentioned in a previous thread, I'm going to be breeding my registered Belties to a pure blood Wagyu bull. My question in regards to hybrid vigor is, would I get the best calf crop out of the F1 crosses, or should I go one step further and breed any F1 heifers I get again to get F2's? If F2's would produce the best calf crop, can I breed these F1 heifers back to their father, or would that not maximize hybrid vigor?

F2 depends on the third breed and how much milk a BGXWA will give. Breeding back to close kin will not maximize hybrid vigor.

Have to breed them to another F1 bull,,,to get F2s... Breeding back to their sire, would only be regression..with what your doing I wouldn't worry about the heterosis to much...it might work against you

So the resulting calf from a pure blood bull and a f1 heifer isn’t an f2?
No that would be 1/4 -3/4 blood..F2s would be wagyu/Galloway F1 females. bred back to Wagyu/ Galloway F1 bull..second cross

As I understand it, your goal is to privately market Wagyu influenced beef.
IF you are going to add a 3rd breed for hybrid vigor, I'd recommend an angus bull from GAR breeding as they focus
on carcass traits like marbling.

I'm not looking to add a 3rd breed, just considering breeding any F1 heifers back to a pure blood Wagyu again to increase the Wagyu influence in the beef.

If I were using Wagyu, the trick for the f2s would be to NOT use any breed bull that produced less marbling than the already prodigious marbling the Wagyu is known for, but does add some rear end and shoulder.
You can't view the pictures any more that Bryant and whitecow posted a couple ears ago, but the marbling was incredible.

I'd sure like to try a Wagyu flatiron once before I die...

If your goal is wagyu beef, breed them back to a wagyu bull. A different one if you can.

I'm about a year out from trying my own. Bought one and its only 5 months. Not growing out to well just yet. Know nothing about them. This one has been designated for my freezer from the get go. This was a bottle calf that I grafted to my nurse cow.
