Hunting Leases

I heard of leases in illinois up to 50 dollars an acre for deer hunting depending on quality and quantity of the land. One of our landlords just leased 256 acres out to some guys from georgia to deer hunt for 5000. he said another guy from north carolina offered him 8000 for it but that guy didn't want anyone on it including me to check our cows and even the owner so he didn't take that offer.

Leases around this area are usually priced "by the gun"....but a typical lease of 1500-2000 acres will have 10-12 hunters and cost from $1750 to $2500 per hunter. Some down toward the Texas Hill Country are much more expensive. Intensive management programs are in effect on most leases allowing one cull buck, one doe and one buck of at least 4 years of age and 19-20 inch minimum antler spread and protein supplement must be feed year round.

Hunting leases are pretty much unheard of around here except duck hunting. With 50% of the state being public land of one sort or another, most of which is open to hunting and over 90% of the big timber company land being open to the public, it sort of eliminates the market for deer hunting leases.

I have several leases. Base price is $6/acre. Some is as high as $12. Club also has to purchase a $2 million insurance policy and pay me $1000 performance bond if they want to camp on the property. Am probably lower than many but I want long term leases with quality hunters that will respect the land. So far, its worked pretty good.

Around here 25.00 an acre will get you in some real good hunting with a decent camphouse. Average is probably 15 and exceelent with new cabin bass lakes turkey and deer will be around 35

In North Dakota all land is open to hunting WITHOUT permission unless it is posted "no hunting" . The hunters of ND have it made. Leasing hunting rights has just started here in the last year or so . In the next Legislative session the Hunters of ND are trying to make it illegal to lease out hunting rights. hummmm.
