HSUS blames factory farming for human diseases
An article published in Critical Reviews in Microbiology claims factory farming is a primary cause of several infectious diseases that pose significant threats to public health. The article's author, Dr. Michael Greger, is director of public health and animal agriculture for the Humane Society of the United States, an animal rights organization. The article details Greger's views of how factory farming has created the conditions ripe for the emergence of infectious diseases, including highly pathogenic strains of avian influenza. The Human Society of the United States (not to be confused with the 130-year-old American Humane Association) is one of the radical animal rights organizations that seek to put you out of business. Much like PETA, the HSUS will grasp at any straw to confuse, mislead and scare the general public into believing animal agriculture is a threat to human survival. HSUS, recognized as the "world's richest animal rights organization," is led by Wayne Pacelle, a former employee of Fund for Animals, an anti-hunting group. In 2002, Pacelle said, "We would be foolish and silly not to unite with people in the public health sector, the environmental community, [and] unions to try to challenge corporate agriculture." That's apparently what they are seeking to do with Greger's article on infectious disease threats. â€" Greg Henderson, Drovers editor
