I bought one cause it was on sale but it has 55# limbs.
About 10# heavier than I like for fingers so I've been using a release.
The string broke I assume due to the release and left a nasty bruise but the upper limb is cracked now.
I've looked online and there are numerous choices but the limbs are higher than what I paid for the bow.
Any option short of buying high dollar limbs ?

I'm no expert on recurves and what shooting that I have done with one was with a tab. I wouldn't think a release would break a string but it's possible. If you run into that situation again try a string loop instead of a nock. I've never really seen that done with a recurve but I've never seen anyone shoot one with a release either.

If you bought it new it should have a life time warranty I don't think they will replace the string but they should the limb

I was using a loop but with my release my anchor is to my ear like when I shoot a compound opposed to anchoring to my mouth with fingers so I may have over extended it

I bought it new at midway USA
Thanks I'll check on that

If you were using a D loop, the release would have no part in the string breaking. Neither would a longer draw length. There almost had to be some sort of damage to the string, possibly something you couldn’t even see. Take it back to the dealer, everything should be covered by the warranty.

Excuse my lack of vocabulary for the terminology
It came with a " fast string" no stretch.
I ordered another string 12 strand and may should have gotten a 14 or 16
It's 55# at 28" I think and stacks pretty good after that.
With the release I'm pulling about 30" and probably overloaded the string.

When the string broke it was the equivalent of a dry fire,so after thinking about it.
It's not a mfg defect but misuse on my part

Even if you’re pulling 31”, the bows are designed and built to withstand that since there are people out there with 31” DLs. The warranty should cover it entirely.

I meant due to the added pull and stacking I bet I was pulling around 70# and overloaded the string I put on it.
Basically dry fired it, not a defect.
But I'm going to contact them and if nothing else I'll avoid paying retail for new limbs.
I was shocked at the price of the limbs but really that's all there is to it is a riser and two limbs so that makes sense

I've talked to a Hoyt rep before he said it didn't matter if it broke on it's own or dropped out of a tree they would fix it

I think you're adding about 5 lbs by over pulling it 2 inches. So your pulling about 60 lbs.

Yeah but 70# sounds cooler than 60 :D

Yeah it does. I think we were posting at the same time on that. I'm telling you right now even 55 lbs on a recurve is awesome

Can't believe I missed this post. I'm sure you will still want to go down in weight even if/when they warranty your limbs. When you get them in, just ebay them, unless your shoulder and elbow are super tough.

TradTech makes some excellent limbs called Black Max that are much less expensive, the non-carbon are on sale for $99. Tons of people use these limbs, carbon adds very little except doubles the price, I've owned and shot all kinds. I think you will have to have a kit to fit the dorado riser, can't remember off hand.

I shot a Buffalo for a couple of years but hated the riser weight and limb length, switched to a shorter Dorado and is MUCH lighter and faster too. I'm shooting 45lbs and could care less about trying to impress anyone, my hold is way too long to shoot 55 and enjoy it.
