What would be the best way to get a youth started showing cattle? Where would be the best place to get proper training on grooming, handling and how to show? 4-H? The area is Morgan County Tennessee.

I would find someone who shows cattle or raises show cattle and ask them for help. Most breeders are more than willing to help, especially if you buy from them. I'd find someone reputable who you can get along with through the teaching process. Most ag teachers could help or find someone who can. Also, contact your extension agent/ beef specialist or 4h coordinator. Good luck! Depending on the kid's age, 4h and FFA are both great programs.

i agree with Flacowboy. an ag teacher should know someone who sells decent animals. i normally look for a clamer calf for the first timers when im sent out to look for one. but i have been in both 4H and FFA and they really are awesome programs to be in. and as far as clipping and showing go you can learn alot by just going to shows and asking around. i learned alot in my first couple of years by watching the older kids show and picking up on what they were doing.

I'm raising my own cattle, hopefully I will have some worth showing. I was thinking of getting my niece involved in showing them. What is the minimum age for showing?

at our fair you have to be 8 by september 1st to show anything. so just check around and see what age limits are most of the shows i attend you have to be 8 to show.
