How much longer?

We ended up with a heifer too. About 70 pounds, so far have had to guesstimate. Mom is a former show heifer, gentle, but, in the last two weeks of pregnancy she got salty. Baby has about a 3/4 white face, the other 1/4 is solid red. Looks like a goggle eye on one side that the paint ran.

Got another that's due any day now, so we are still on baby watch at our place.

Actually his weight was 103 at the vet office. He is sired by Full House. So much for that calving ease he is known for.

Well, if the moma was a show heifer & she has been on feed the whole preg. She has been given a better chance to provide for the baby. I really wouldn't count that as bad calving ease #'s for that reason. Now if she was just on pasture with normal feed & hay. You might want to worry.

I have often wonder why the ASA doesn't have it where you have to record if the cow was on feed during the whole preg. or on pasture when you register a calf, you know like when you enter weaning weights they ask if it was cow alone, or cow/creep feed, etc. or when you input yearling weights, pasture or feed, etc.

Because wouldn't that be something that would impact CE and BW epds? Since you input if it was an easy birth, hard birth, etc. Also, a cow on feed is going to have a bigger calf than one on straight pasture and minerals. So therefore, it would affect the bull's epd's also.

Well another heifer arrived this afternoon. So all the first timers have had calves. Yeah!! All the others that are due in the next couple of months, have been there and done that before, they can be checked once in the morning and once in the evening. Not several times a day. It will be August/September 2007 before the next first timer calves. Yeah, Yeah!!
