How much land does a person need for each head of beef? We had a dairy farm and know how to feed dairy but really quite clueless as to beef. I am wondering how many head we could run on our land. It is good- average crop/grazing land. This year we have around 140 acres rented out into corn (non irrigated). The rest of the land is pasture/low ground. What does a person need to plant for Beef cows? (Thinking of next year). I am assuming Beef need to be fed hay throughout the winter. How good of quality hay do they need? Lots of questions lol

Pretty much depends where you are, even more this year . If you got good native grass that's a good start . not knowing your climate or location I can't answer most of your questions . :welcome: :tiphat:

I was able to keep a beef, and a half (Angus) for each Holstein dairy cow I had. Had to buy some feed sometimes for the dairy cows, I don't buy for the beef. If you had Dairy cows, figure one and one half beef per cow, then go from there'

That's sure a loaded question if there ever was one! :P

"Here", I'd say it takes 25-30 acres to support one AU on a year in - year out basis. Gonna take more than that with the drought this year.
