How much is a bit

Who still uses the term bit when counting money, I have noticed in my neck of the woods it is very seldom used any longer.
 
My parents and a lot of the old timers used it all the time.
Now for me it didn't make sense 2 bits = 25 cents, 4 bits = 50 cents.
I have done many odd chores for 4 to 6 bits. This barefoot kid
still aint figured it out yet.

It had to do with when coinage would be cut into pices to make multiple smaller "bits" from the whole. A dollar coin could be divided in to 8 "bits". I still use the term but get that deer in the headlights look form people.
A "fin" was a 5 dollar bill, a "sawbuck" was a 10 dollar bill, since we rarely had them a "double sawbuck" was a 20 dollar bill. Never heard of anything bigger since they were so rare.
