Personally, I gave up "sacrifice areas" two reasons. First, sanitation. It was hard watching them lay in 2 feet of mud. Second, more importantly, I found that if I gave them a big area they still had some place to lay out of the mud AND I found that the area they'd sacrificed into mud, came back in full (and fuller) bloom the next year as long as I kept moving them around. It looks like he## right now out there and it's always hard for me to believe this time of year that it'll come back, but every year, it does. I actually see more value in a drought/summer sacrifice area than a winter one.
