I know there are many variables but generally speaking. I am buying 4x5' rolls of hay this year which is different than previous years. How long will a roll last with a certain number of average weight adult cows. I know some of you have a very good idea on this.

1 roll per twenty head per day.

Well that's is an answer and it's probably fairly accurate for a couple weeks a year around here.

it's the variables that need to be taken into account and those need to be figured out. A blanket answer varies by location as well as management practices.

Way I figure it 1 roll per day for 20-25 cows depending on cows just setting it in the pasture and letting them have it. Depending on the cows a herd of 1250 pound cows will eat more than a herd of 1000 pound cows

I figure it takes me 3 rolls per cow to winter I normally buy 4 rolls per cow just as a safety cushion

If you've been feeding 5x6 rolls, everything else equal, will last half the time.....figure 1600# for 5x6, 1250 for a 4x6 and 850 for a 4x5 or 5x4.
