This is the British Justice Service for you....they let Abu Qatada a known terrorist out of prison and then do this.

38 Degrees is forwarding on this email from Pat, a 38 Degrees member who is campaigning for the release of Sergeant Danny Nightingale. Pat has started a petition to Defence Secretary Philip Hammond on the new Campaigns by You part of the 38 Degrees site. Read her message below or visit the petition here: http://you.38degrees.org.uk/p/danny-nightingale

Dear Claire,

As the country paid its respects to our troops on Remembrance Sunday, one of their number was facing an unfair sentence of 18 months behind bars - all for an honest mistake.

Due to a tragic series of events, Sergeant Danny Nightingale, a soldier and medic with 17 years’ service, was convicted last week of illegally possessing a pistol that he didn’t know he had.

Danny Nightingale is no gun nut - he’s a soldier who’s served his country faithfully for nearly two decades. He made a mistake, but he’s paying well over the odds for it.

The Ministry of Defence are there to protect our troops, but they’re failing Danny badly. Defence Secretary Philip Hammond has the power to secure Sergeant Nightingale’s release, but so far he’s ducked the responsibility. He’s starting to feel the heat though - MPs within his own party have publicly demanded he review Danny’s conviction and are holding a Parliamentary debate about his case this Tuesday. [1]

But let’s not just rely on his colleagues. Philip Hammond might be able to ignore other MPs - but he needs our votes to keep him in his job. A huge people-powered petition will leave him in no doubt that the public want him to act and he’ll be forced to secure Danny’s release.

It was only because of a string of tragedies that the pistol ended up in Danny’s house at all. He was given it as a gift from some Iraqi troops he had been training and planned to donate it to his regiment as a war trophy. But before he could, he was suddenly called back to the UK to arrange the funerals of two of his closest friends.

Shortly after, Danny suffered severe memory damage after collapsing and falling into a coma while taking part in a charity fundraising trek.

His colleagues shipped his army kit, including the pistol, back to the UK in locked boxes which remained unopened and forgotten at Danny’s house for another three years. It was only after police searched his house following a complaint against his housemate that the pistol was found and he was charged with illegal possession of a weapon.

Expert witnesses at Danny’s trial said that he “probably had no recollection that he had the gun” because of his memory loss. But their testimony was ignored - and now Danny is behind bars and his wife and children face being evicted from their home. [2]

Sign my petition now and help get Sergeant Nightingale home for Christmas:

Danny’s sentence was described by his commanding officer as the “total betrayal of a man who dedicated his life to the service of his country.” Not only did he serve loyally in the army for 17 years, as a medic he invented a lifesaving dressing that is so effective it’s now used by NHS paramedics.

As an NHS worker, I’ve seen first hand the debt of gratitude thousands of patients owe to Danny and his work - so when I heard his story, I felt I had to do something to help him in his hour of need. Please help me make sure Danny Nightingale gets the justice he deserves.

Thank you for standing with me,

Pat Johnson, 38 Degrees member from Cheshire

Doesn't seem right especially in a country that grants its citizens the right to keep and bear arms as does your country. Granted your constitution doesn't allow you to own a bow and arrow though. :???:

Think that is the other way around...Jo...also there is an archaic law that says 'Every boy at the age of 16 years should learn to use a bow' this is not one that is put into practice anymore thankfully. We can own a bow and arrow but we can't hunt with them, target practice only.
